EQ4 Air Band®: Effortless Top End, Musical Control
The EQ4-500 single-channel, 6-band equalizer with the legendary Air Band® is designed around musical interaction. Five of the bands are fixed, with relatively broad curves that remain continuously active. As a result, each adjustment subtly influences the others, allowing you to shape tone in a more organic, musical way. It’s common to boost one band while gently reducing a neighboring band to refine the result, since all five are always interacting.
The 2.5 kHz band is unique in that it functions as a shelving band with both boost and cut capability. Above these bands sits the defining feature of the EQ4: the Air Band®. Unlike traditional EQ sections, the Air Band operates independently, riding on top of the rest of the circuit. It offers selectable frequencies at 2.5, 5, 10, 20, and 40 kHz, and is designed to enhance high frequencies without introducing noise or harshness.
Because of the EQ’s interactive nature, boosting a frequency such as 5 kHz may also bring up neighboring content around 2.5 kHz. In those cases, gently pulling back 2.5 kHz can help maintain balance. This interplay is central to how the EQ4 shapes sound.
What truly sets the Air Band apart is its ability to open up the top end of a mix or individual source without adding hiss or brittleness. You can add significant high-frequency energy, even on sensitive material like female vocals, without emphasizing sibilance or introducing harsh artifacts. The result is a smooth, open top end that enhances clarity while preserving musicality.
